Apple Unveils Final Cut Camera App Bringing Professional Video Capabilities to iPhone and iPad

Apple has unveiled advanced camera controls for the iPhone through their novel Final Cut Camera app, which has currently been made accessible for download via the App Store. Initially revealed during the Let Loose event in May alongside the launch of the new MacBook models, the app's release timeline remained unknown, causing much speculation among Apple enthusiasts. iPhone users can now download the app from the App Store for free, which provides professional camera controls and editing tools for mobile devices.

The app is described in an Apple Newsroom post as an innovative video capture tool that allows creators to connect and wirelessly direct each video angle. This marks the first instance of professional camera controls being available on the iPhone through an official Apple application. Users gain access to settings such as shutter speed, ISO, white balance, and manual focus.

The Final Cut Camera app functions as a standalone professional video capture tool on the iPhone and iPad. According to Apple, users can initiate a live multicam session by connecting up to four devices running the Final Cut Camera app, allowing them to preview, record, and sync video angles remotely in Final Cut Pro for iPad.

The app has features like ratio guides and grid overlays for shot composition, zebra indicators for exposure, and focus peaking for precise camera focus. Additionally, creators can choose between various color and dynamic ranges, including SDR (Rec. 709), HDR (HLG), and Log, available only when Apple ProRes is activated. Resolution options include 720p, 1080p, and 4K, with refresh rates of 24fps, 25fps (PAL), 30fps, and 60fps.

The app includes stabilization features to minimize shakiness and movement for optimal shot capture. Users can select different focal lengths for filming, with options available for the iPhone 15 Pro being 13mm, 24mm, and 77mm. The app is compatible with iPhone Xs and later models running iOS 17.4 or later.

Together with the Final Cut Camera for iPhone, Apple has also unveiled Final Cut Pro for iPad, which now also includes the Live Multicam feature. The app remains free for current users, while new users can subscribe at Rs. 499 monthly.
