Digital Extremes Unveils Soulframe: A Fantasy Journey Beyond Warframe's Legacy

Digital Extremes has embarked on an exciting new venture beyond its established title, Warframe. The studio is introducing a secondary project named Soulframe, which promises a distinct departure from their previous work. During a recent discussion at Gamescom, CEO Steven Sinclair shed light on the contrast between the two endeavors, emphasizing the new game's unique theme.

Sinclair revealed that the team aims to evolve into a dual-project studio. After dedicating twelve years to Warframe, they have initiated the development of Soulframe as a complementary experience. Sinclair explained how they envisioned the game by juxtaposing it with Warframe's characteristics—its futuristic and gritty aesthetics, fast-paced action, and dynamic movement style. The intention behind Soulframe is to create an environment that is cozy and fantasy-oriented, encouraging a slower pace of gameplay. This approach draws inspiration from beloved influences such as the enchanting world portrayed in Princess Mononoke, along with a splash of Disney's charm.

Importantly, Sinclair noted that Soulframe should not be misconstrued as dark fantasy. Although the title may evoke thoughts of a soul-based genre, the essence of the game revolves around themes of spirituality and the connections forged with animals and one's ancestors throughout the gameplay experience.
