Instagram Empowers Third-Party Apps with Enhanced API Features

With a series of updates to the Instagram and Reels API, Instagram aims to extend the publishing functionalities accessible via third-party apps.

One such enhancement involves integrating the recently launched collaborative posting feature into the API system. Instagram introduced this feature last week, enabling users to invite others to contribute their images or videos to a carousel post. With the new API update, users will soon be able to publish these collaborative posts via external social management apps, thus widening their posting options.

Additionally, Instagram is integrating Organic Reels insights into the API, offering more valuable data for content planning purposes.

Simultaneously, Meta, the parent company of Instagram, is adding a copyright protection element to the Facebook Video API to match a feature already available in Instagram. This tool will allow users to determine upfront whether their media content might be blocked due to copyright issues after being published. This enhancement is designed to simplify and streamline publishing procedures by ensuring that posts aren't obstructed by Facebook's systems during publication.

These updates are part of Meta's ongoing efforts to improve its API, offering approved third-party apps greater functionality and improved publishing parity. This is excellent news for users who manage multiple apps via a single platform. The added features will give users more ways to optimize their Facebook and Instagram video content.

According to Meta, these new API features will be available from October 30, 2023. However, the timeline for their integration into respective social management platforms will likely differ.
